bp connectFriday 19th September - Insight/NACS Midlands C-Store "Green" Collaboration Day and Site Visits sponsored by IGuzzini
Insight/NACS look at green innovation for the convenience sector in supply chain and within the store. State of the art forecourt distribution, cost and carbon saving through truck sharing and the best technical and operational solutions in store design, lighting, air conditioning and refrigeration will be explored in site visits and a round table discussion.

* Green Retail Round table discussion with: Bob Simpson Head of Sustainable Store Development Asda, Darren Hicks Property Services Manager at WH Smith and Jonathan James at James Graven. Presentation by David Grant Professor in Logistics University of Hull.

Tesco Express* Green Logistics Round table discussion with: Stephen Hunter Managing Director of Logistics Nisa Today's, Dean Wyatt Business Director.

* Visit to Tesco's first new standard "Environmental" Express. This store is the first of Tesco's Express stores to be built to a standard blue print which will ensure Tesco meets its target that all new stores have, on average, half the carbon footprint of a 2006 store by 2020. The store features a timber frame and skylights, as well as dimmable interior lighting, under-floor heating, roof cowls for air ventilation, and CO2-based refrigeration with just a small charge of refrigerant. To improve refrigeration efficiency, normally open fridges have been fitted with doors.

* Visit to DHL's dedicated BP multi-temperature Distribution Centre at Lutterworth. This very modern DC features state of the art multi-lingual voice picking technology and full track and trace capabilities. Delegates will follow the supply chain, from initial order, to store delivery at a nearby BP forecourt which the group will also visit. Deliveries to BP forecourts are optimised and planned in advance and do not require checking on arrival in-store, but can be placed straight on the shelves, speeding up operations and reducing costs. We observe the process and follow an order's progress through the system concluding with a site visit to the destination BP Connect store.
