Jonathan James is one of the UK's most respected and successful independent retailers. In this provocative presentation Jonathan will set out his vision of the future for independent convenience retailing. Jonathan's award winning Ely forecourt store was years ahead of its time. In this presentation Jonathan will reveal his thoughts and plans for a new, radical, store design intended to evolve local community engagement to a new level and create a new personalised 'community hub' in the 21st Century. He will also set out his views on how independent retailers can create a new platform for success in partnership with symbol groups.

Jay Ricker, President
Ricker Oil Company

what's happening in the US market today ?

Jay Ricker is President of Indiana based Ricker Oil Company. Ricker Oil operates 30 convenience retail locations in Indiana, as well as a petroleum distributorship and other enterprises. Jay's presentation will focus on recent changes in the US market and how the US convenience and petroleum industry is weathering the recession. In particular, he will discuss the opportunities created through major oil company ‘sell offs' and his own experiences in doing a market buyout. He will also discuss the difficulties in securing finance, selling locations off, the issues that face operators with franchisee and non-franchised portfolios and the continued bifurcation of the industry in the US as divested stores are culled out.

Phil Maud, Petrol Director

Malcolm Tinkler, Managing Director
Greengate Energy

Managing Your "Energy Hungry" Assets

It should not be a surprise that energy is becoming a larger and more critical component of the profitability of your business. For retailers, next to labour, energy can be the largest operating expense. Knowing key details of your energy consuming equipment on sites, combined with historical and real-time energy consumption is critical to measuring and managing as well as understanding your energy use and operating costs. Without a strong plan to manage energy across your estate - your assets, operations, maintenance, and information and more so, your profits may be at risk. Greengate Energy offers the following services as part of its MMC (Measure, Monitor and Control) solution - Estate Management, Real-time Energy Monitoring and Asset Alignment.

Edward Wheeler, Managing Director
EUROTANK ENVIRONMENTAL LTD

Diesel on your customers' shoes: the effects of microbial contamination on fuel retailers.

Eurotank has been working extremely closely with it's customers to develop pro-active and re-active solutions to microbial contamination issues.

Adding bio diesel into a retail fuel station can cause significant microbial growth, which can eventually lead to blocked filters. From the customers perspective, blocked filters can cause significant annoyance at the length of time it takes to re fill their vehicles. When the flow rate drops to below 15 litres per minute, the nozzle cut off doesn't work and the customer can end up with diesel all over their clothes and shoes as they overfill their vehicle. Eurotank is the leading provider of tank and fuel maintenance services in the UK, the company has grown by 400% in the last 36 months.
