Insight NACS Future of International Convenience & Petroleum Retailing 2010

International Convenience Retailer of the Year awardInsight and NACS are delighted to once again host the 2010 International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award at Insight’s Future of Convenience event in London between 20th and 24th September. Our award is sponsored by Imperial Tobacco and BARO lighting and is now in its second year.

This prestigious award recognises excellence in convenience and forecourt retailing on an international stage by celebrating the best convenience retail formats from around the world.

Our inaugural 2009 award was very successful. Retailers and suppliers around the world enjoyed the chance to choose the final winner from the shortlist selected by our expert panel. In the end, 2,242 executives voted for the final four: Sainsbury’s Local in the UK, South Africa’s Pick n Pay Express, Musgrave Centra in Ireland and Spar China. After a tough fight, Spar China was our 2009 winner, just squeezing past Musgrave’s Centra to win the award.

The 2010 International Convenience Retailer Award is once again open to all convenience and forecourt retailers that operate a convenience store format and we are delighted to announce that entries to the 2010 competition have more than doubled compared from 2009 with 17 entries in all. Submissions have been attracted from around the globe and spanning the continents of Europe, Africa, North and South America and Australia.

We are pleased to announce that the following retailers have entered this prestigious award:

  • 7-Eleven Australia, Australia
  • Applegreen, Ireland
  • BP Hampton Court, UK
  • BP Dube Village, South Africa
  • AF Blakemore - Conrad Davies, Eurospar, Wales
  • Caltex Star Mart, Bondi, Australia
  • Cosan, Brazil
  • Fresh Stop, South Africa
  • James Graven - Jonathan James, Budgens, UK
  • Murco Petroleum/Costcutter, UK
  • Pick n Pay, South Africa
  • Rewe, Temma, Germany
  • Rutter's, USA
  • Scotmid Co-operative, Scotland
  • Spar UK, UK
  • Topaz, Ireland
  • Topaz Centra, Ireland

Each of the above retailers will now be profiled in the next edition of Insight’s Global Convenience Store Focus publication. Meanwhile our elite panel of judges are now immersed in judging all of the entries and supporting videos to arrive at a shortlist. The shortlist will be revealed in the September 2010 edition of Global Convenience Store Focus and readers will then have the opportunity to vote for their favourite retailer on line.

The Award, which is sponsored by Imperial Tobacco and Baro Lighting, will be presented during the Insight Future of International Convenience Retailing event at our Awards Dinner at the Grand Connaught Rooms, 61-65 Great Queen Street on the evening of 21st September 2010
