Insight Research, NACS Relationship Partner for Europe, will be hosting retail study tours in Atlanta, during the NACS Show.

Retail Study Tours for internationals delegates attending the NACS Show take place around the NACS Workshop and Expo sessions.

On the Tuesday morning – 5th October – 7am to 12:20pm - SOLD OUT
On the Wednesday afternoon – 6th October – 1pm to 5:25pm - STILL AVAILABLE
On the Thursday afternoon – 7th October – 1pm to 5:25pm - SOLD OUT

Tour Options & Details

All study tours depart from and return to the Marriot Marquis hotel, Courtland Road entrance, downtown Atlanta, across the street from the Hilton Hotel.

Note: The Wednesday and Thursday study tour routes are the same and therefore delegates wanting to attend more than one Retail Study Tour session will then have the choice of attending the Tuesday morning route and either the Wednesday or Thursday afternoon.

  • Tuesday 5th October – The Downtown Atlanta Study Tour & Market Presentation Breakfast : The Tuesday Retail Study Tour starts early with a breakfast briefing from US retail industry experts.(details below) The stores include visits to Publix, Wholefoods, QuikTrip and Kroger and focus on a cross section of retail formats in the city.
  • Wednesday 6th or Thursday 7th October – QuikTrip Exclusive and Petroleum C-Store Tour: This tour route features an exclusive visit to QuikTrip Kitchens, commissary and distribution centre, a QuikTrip store, RaceTrac and Kangaroo Express. The Wednesday or Thursday Retail Study Tour features a market overview and briefing on the go – whilst travelling to site.

QuikTrip's QT Kitchens Exceeds Expectations

December 30, 2009 - TULSA, Okla. Nearly four years since launching QT Kitchens, QuikTrip's push into foodservice is performing "ahead of expectations," Mike Thornbrugh, public relations manager for the convenience store chain, told CSNews Online.

Fresh products are delivered from the commissaries to all 534 QuikTrip convenience store locations daily. On any given day at the chain's stores, Thornbrugh said in excess of 50 products are being offered under the QT Kitchens brand, including fresh deli sandwiches, salads, doughnuts, muffins and fruit cups. The retailer continues to experiment with new offerings.

Tuesday morning Breakfast Briefing

The Tuesday morning Retail Study Tour begins with a breakfast briefing featuring presentations from Jeff Murphy and Joe Bona looking at current and future trends in the convenience retail market both in the USA and the local Atlanta market.

Biography - G. (Jeff ) M.Murphy
Jeff has more than 30 years experience involving a multitude of leadership positions across a wide variety of industries and global markets. While working in corporate, his experience ranged from VP Business Development for a global retail branding & design firm, to the executive position of Marketing Manager for a global fuels and convenience retailer with responsibility for the Southern Hemisphere.

As Managing Partner of The Murphy Group LLC www.murphygroupllc.com , Jeff and his team of senior consultants have assisted in global expansion efforts of retailers, suppliers and trade associations; provided strategic management consulting advice to fuels/convenience retailers around the world and guided the Marketing Plan creation, including consumer research and the ultimate value propositions. He has also provided advice on global, emerging market prioritization; economic modeling; mergers/acquisitions and market entry strategies. Jeff is keenly active in his community; has served on an Executive committee of not for profit children and health-oriented organizations & is currently a member of the NACS International Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.

Biography – Joseph Bona, President, CBX USA
Joe is responsible for directing the Retail practice at CBX, overseeing the creative process with a management style that stresses close client contact and attention to detail.His extensive work on six continents has given him a unique perspective on global trends but more importantly, it has provided him with the practical knowledge of how to adapt and respond to local markets. Prior to CBX, Joe was President and Chief Operating Officer at CDI Group where he worked for over 21 years. During his more than 25 years as a retail branding and design professional, he has directed a wide range of strategic and creative initiatives for such global companies as: Stop & Shop Supermarkets, ChevronTexaco, Daiei Supermarket, Frito-Lay, Nestle and Petro-Canada to name a few. His work has led to numerous international design awards and is often featured in a wide variety of leading industry trade publications.
