Insight and NACS are delighted to announce the launch of the 2010 International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award and invite entries.
This prestigious award recognises excellence in convenience and forecourt retailing on an international stage by celebrating the best convenience retail formats from around the world.
Launching the 2010 award Insight partner, Dan Munford, said: “Despite the recession, convenience retailing continues to be one of the most dynamic sectors in the global grocery market. Our annual award benchmarks best practice by looking for the latest retail innovation and is truly international in its reach.
“Our inaugural 2009 award was very successful. I think the contest is especially popular because it involves highly experienced international judges and represents the voice of the global industry so there is real competition between countries to take the top prize.
“Retailers and suppliers around the world enjoyed the chance to choose the final winner from the shortlist selected by our expert panel. In the end, 2,242 executives voted for the final four: Sainsbury’s Local in the UK, South Africa’s Pick n Pay Express, Musgrave Centra in Ireland and Spar China.
“The Spar Hongtu store in China was our 2009 winner, just squeezing past Musgrave’s Centra Raheen to win the award, and has been profiled in our store review video in this edition of Global Convenience Store Focus.”
Insight and NACS are now inviting entries from all innovative convenience and forecourt retailers.
The 2010 International Convenience Retailer Award is open to all convenience retailers and forecourt retailers that operate a convenience store format.
Entrants are required to demonstrate innovation and development in convenience retailing in six key areas and provide photographic and/or video evidence. For further details, including detailed entry criteria, please see the attached PDFs. This year’s entries will be shortlisted by an international panel of leading convenience retailing executives. From this shortlist, readers of Global Convenience Store Focus will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite international convenience retailer online.
The recipient of this award is ultimately decided by the vote of a global audience of grocery retailers, the international fmcg industry and industry observers from around the world.
The award will be presented at the Insight NACS Future of International Convenience & Petroleum Retailing 2010 event in London, 20-23 September 2010.
Introducing the 2010 award and commenting on the 2009 entries, Munford said: “The strength of submissions for 2009 was truly first class, showcasing the industry’s most innovative store formats and concepts.
“Insight and NACS look forward to receiving the 2010 award entries from convenience retailers from around the world who are leading innovation and development in this dynamic market.”
